Process of Understanding
Artist Statement:
The process of understanding a piece of artwork comes in many different forms. There is no "one way" to understanding a piece of art work. However, if you follow a process, it can help you to understand a concept or piece of artwork more easily. If you start off leading up to a discovery (the TRY ME! coloring books) and then start at the discovery and end up at the unknown or forgotten (coloring set books), you will have gone through a process of understand Duchamp's Fountain. You have to go through a mental process to understand art. Therefore, with a white crayon on white paper, you are forced to go through this insight because there is not labor.

Artist Inspiration
Marco Maggi
To understand the approach to this artwork, Marco Maggi is a great inspiration because of his attention to detail and level of understanding of his material. For this project, I needed to focus on the attention of detail to each coloring book, by making sure each page lined up in a way that made them look commercial for the full effect. I am influenced by the way Maggi practiced his skill of making parallel lines free hand in order to make his work perfect to his standards. I was influenced by this patience in my work by carefully outlining the Fountain with a dot to dot shape creator that took two hours to create. The precision and carefulness in creating this outline was in pried by Maggi. This artist in important to study because of his patience with his work to make it up to his standards. In order to create a good piece of art work, we have to be patient in this class.
"Reynolds"
This piece shows Maggi's patience in creating the intricate designs on the foil.

Yukinori Yanagi
This artist influenced me for this project because he also taught me patience and to let the artwork have a mind of its own. This helped me to let my artwork speak to me. The Fountain spoke to the society of artists, so I wanted to let my artwork speak to the viewer. I am influence how Yanagi came up with an idea and then spent hours and hours completing his idea, in pieces, but many hours. This artist is important to study because the artwork was not just created by the artist, but with help from an outside source. This will help keep my peers and myself open minded in class for the possibility of allowing others, nature, or some other outside source help create a piece of artwork. In connection with Duchamp's fountain, Yanagi created a piece of artwork that was inspiring and very unique for contemporary art.
"Wandering Position"
This shows how Yanagi had patience to follow and ant around and allowed the ant to be a major outside source in creating his artwork.
