Success in Designing for and With Techniques
Installation Design Option
Photogram-
*I sketched out possible diptychs
*I played with negative space
*I drew on top of sketches to perfect
*I printed multiple trials for photograms to design diptych
Pinhole-
*I spent a lot of time testing out the camera in different lighting, positions, holes, etc.
*I sketched out possible ways to present the four images
Holga-
*I sketches out possible ideas with four images
Depth of Field-
*I experimented with the first roll by responding to Robert Frank's work
*Then I played with the space and position of the camera, my body, and the words on the mirror by spending a while in the
bathroom looking through the view finder
Series-
*I researched many artists and commented on their artwork on what I found interesting about it
*Then I conducted multiple test shoots with a digital camera and drew on the printed images to fix my designs
*Then I shot two rolls of film, after one had a scratch on it
Installation-
*I researched many artists and commented on their artwork on what I found interesting about it
*I then sketched out designs based on all of the artists I researched
*I responded to critiques and sketched new designs

Commonalities Acorss the Semster
-Geometric Theme:
*Photogram- a struggle between organic and geometric
~I was just starting to understand I like geometric better
*Pinhole- a symmetrical gird, series of 1, 2, 3, 4, very technical and
everything lined up
*Depth of Field- I framed my body geometrical between the rectangle
bathroom stall. I included a repetition of the square tiles on the
background.
*Series- I used perfect halves of bodies
*Installation- Each image had to be moved to perfectly match up with the scene behind it like a geometric shape fitting into a space perfectly. The actually treasure, or object discovered is a geometric wooden sculpture.
-Thoroughly documenting and responding
-Using an identifiable object in all projects:
*Photogram- Rubber bands
*Pinhole- Black electric tape
*Depth of Field- All objects
*Series-All objects
*Installation- All objects
-Good control of technique:
*Photogram- Dodging and burning, printing paper with images on it
*Pinhole- Having the same lighting and contrast in all images
*Depth of Field- Narrow and wide depth of field mastered
*Series- Successful series, side by side negative
*Installation- Interactive, professionally presented installation, images are interesting because they go from blurry and gray to clear and high contrast
-Make you question reality:
*Photogram- Cannot immediately recognize organic circles as rubber bands, appear to be draw
*Pinhole- Cannot immediately recognize circle as electric tape or grid as a window
*Depth of Field- Do not immediately notice second mirror in background
*Series- Makes you question if they are perfectly aligned or if the other side is really the same body
*Installation- Standing at different points of view makes the viewer question what is the right point of view
