First Homework Assignment
9/10/15
I learned to trust the whisper. At first I was too uptight and had a heavy hand. Also at first, I drew what I "knew" and not what I saw. Now I am going to remember to be more in the moment and trust the shapes inside and the shapes that I see. I'm refreshing myself to draw the essence of the pose, rather than the pure contour. I need to continue this process of a soft whisper to gradually harder lines. In the homework, although I do have whispers and searching lines, I need to make more of them fluid and softer. I also need to trust the body rather than trust what I know.

Best and Worst Quick Gestures
9/17/15
For my best gesture, I had small whispers and shapes inside. The shapes inside help with the contour. The shapes make the gesture more full. I learned how to check angles and proportions while using the shapes inside. It is important to use all of the concepts and techniques in the round to get a successful figure. Looking at the model also helps fix lines that are seen differently by your mind compared to your eyes. I also made sure to pay attention to relationships between lines, shapes, and angles of the form.
In my worst gesture, I forced the lines too heavy too early. I also tried to do contour before shapes inside. I did not pay attention to relationships or angles which made everything disproportional. Everything was too stiff.
Goal: Pay attention to shapes inside and relationships to them.

Mass Gestures in Class
9/22
I have continued to trust the whisper which is giving me a nice ground to lay the proportions on top of and around the whisper. The shapes from the whisper have allowed me to wrap a semi solid form which makes the gesture more real and dimensional. I have also been able to portray the weight of the figure and twists of the body by darkening the wrapping in select spots. This gives the figure more mass and weight on the ground (the page). I am also constantly checking proportions which is allowing me to generate accurate forms.
Goals:
1. Continue to trust the whisper: keep it light, fast, and skate across the page
2. Check angles throughout: hold up drawing tool to the model, keep checking
3. Try light to dark and all around

Extended Drawings
9/29
I listened to layers. Each layer is so important to creating the final piece. Whispers, first proportions, more whispers, more proportions, shapes inside, and then all of these and refining contour. I made sure to really pay attention to the individual twists and subtle changes in contour and weight in the body. Throughout, I wiped my shami a few times to get a slightly different value to add to the mass of the figure.

Time in Space
9/24
I learned how to check the final pieces if a drawing. I really trained myself to look at the in-between spaces and where body parts overlapped. I used the overlap as a way to create a dynamic composition. This is the beginning of using the figure in space to create a piece of work, rather than simply just draw the figure. I was noticing small curves and differences in contours that I only saw when I listened to the pose. I made sure to use the lines I had form the inside shapes and the whispers. I also payed attention to making the body look fleshy and having mass and volume.
