The blue and white pieces came out of the kiln. I reglazed the white tops of the pieces to cover up some of the clay that was showing through. I also added more blue to the outside to connect it to the inside. This way the viewer can enjoy the pieces in the round and want to explore all the way around them. I cut out all the wooden shadows for my blue and white series and with the same piece of plywood. This is important because I plan on using a wood stain that shows the wood grain. All of the directions of the shadows follow the wood grain of the plywood. This helps emphasizes the growth of the pieces by following the grain in the wood. I plan on using a medium brown wood strain with the blue and white series to highlight the areas inside that were left the brown of the clay to create a full circle view of the pieces. I also finished cutting out the wood for my metallic green pieces. It is important for me to have the shadows interacting with each other to show inner and outer self becoming one with their memories of the shadows colliding and molding with each other. I have chosen to use a light tan for the stain on the wood to separate the glaze from the wood. The heavy contrast with let the glaze stand out between the wood making it seem independent and strong. The glaze is complete for the metallic green inner and outer pieces. For the more open pieces, I sponged on the glaze to show how the inner self is trying to break free from the glaze. I also sponged off the glaze on the ridges to show the outer self trying to break free form the glaze. I pooled the glaze in the crevices to show how weighted it can be before it tries to break free. I glazed my light bulb series very simply black and clear. This series is about the form trying to make sense of itself. In the first piece "In Search of" the glaze is sponged on trying to search for color and meaning. The second piece "Communicate" is black and clear because its trying to communicate what is found. The third piece is all black with the pieces fading because they are sharing information that is being passed around. The last piece is a light coat of black that is coating all of the pieces to classify what was found. A couple are clear glazed to start to move the bulbs in a certain order of understanding. Goals: Stain Wood Get hooks for light bulb pieces Install light bulb pieces and inner and outer self pieces Prepare for presentation |
