Over the past week, I have been working on texture in my vessels. I added the root like texture to the outside of the first two pieces that I made. This shows how roots represent how the outside self feels covered and protected. It shows how I feel protected with all of the roots surrounding me. It was important to me for both vessels to have the same root exterior to show how they are connected in having the same soul. Although the form is very different, they are connected by having the same texture. The texture on the inside contrasts the texture on the outside because they are refined small shapes that catch the light. There are heavy dark shadows that are seen in the inside texture which contrast the elongated smooth shadows on the exterior. This contrast in texture shows how the inner and outer self conflict against each other and try to converse with each other. I made sure to put some of the root forms in the inside of the vessel to have a sense of the roots either invading the smaller texture, or the smaller texture invading the roots. It is important to me to not have it exactly clear which is the more dominant texture. I created two new forms that are also in response to the relationship of inner and outer self. One is more of an enclosed form that has three openings and an opening in the base. The other form is completely open with one opening in the base as well. These two vessels are more of an extreme showcase of inner and outer self because the contained vessel is very restrictive and the opening vessel is very freeing. I added the root texture and heavy shadowed texture on the inside as well. My goals for the next week are to refine the textures in the four vessels I have made and make at least 2 new paired vessels showcasing inner and outer self. | |
