Summary of Project 3 progress/decisions
The first round of photos I took for this project were in search of subject matter. In the process of taking these beginning photos, I was trying to abstract the subject matter or look at it in a different perspective. I didn't want it to be too obvious what the subject was, but I didn't want it to be completely abstracted, at first. The beginning photos exemplify how I was trying to take photos of uninteresting objects that had interesting shapes and stains, and composing them beautifully.
This led me to my next round of photos during class. These photos consisted of trying to find trash in the CFA and composing it in a beautiful way. I was also looking at other stains and dirt particles and trying to compose them. I did not like the way any of these photos turned out. They were all very basic and uninteresting. There wasn't much to look at.
The official second round of photos included composing things on campus that were discolored, stained, rotting, falling apart. I feel as though these were my most successful photos out of all of the photos I have taken for this project. These are very abstracted and exciting to look at. They are well composed and cropped to create interesting photos. These also highlight the stains and discoloration and let people see them in a new light. I will be looking back at these photos when composing new photos to finish out the project.
The third and last round of photos for this project I took was of trash in the woods in downtown and in nature. I wasn't crazy about any of these photos because they were not abstracted enough. The subject matter was too obvious and not interesting to look at. However, one photo I took of some wood and rolled up paper might make the cut for abstraction.
My next steps for this project is editing the photos I have and seeing which look best together. Also seeing which photos conceptually connect to each other as a whole. I am leaning more towards trying to create "paintings" out of photographs through editing and changing the orientation of the photos.
