THREE OBJECTS
RAM Piece-
I am very inspired by this plaster piece because it has a circular movement. I would like to create a piece with a lot of circular movement. I am attracted to the circular movement because it would encourage the viewer to walk all around the piece. I am also interested in the direction of the holes, because they go in different 2 different direction, which again encourages the viewer to move all around the piece by looking through the negative space. I also enjoy the smooth texture. This texture does not distract from the simply form and dramatic curves and negatives space. I will smooth out my texture so it does not distract from the curves in the composition.
For my laminated piece, I am inspired by the above pieces. More specifically, I am inspired by the piece on the far right. I would like to create a laminated piece that mimics the edge of a cliff or a natural formation, in the shape of an hourglass. This way I can create a symmetrical rhythm but with organic shapes.
For my box, I am inspired by a triangle hinge I found at Lowe's. Using the hinge as a design element, I plan on making triangles on the edge of the box to allow light in. I also plan on making the top of the box have a triangle on top to assist in opening the box. I picked out some wood from the pile that struck my eye. This wood had two tones running down the center of the wood. I wanted to incorporate this into the design on my box. I plan on cutting the triangles on the edges right in the middle of of the two tones of wood. Therefore, the point of the triangle is in the center of the wood.
